About

In 1986, Mrs. Rosenstiel called upon Dr. Zygmunt Turski, a Member of the Board of Directors of the A.I.P.C., to organize a Special Projects Department. The department would cover two subjects:

  • the lack of information about Poland's history and culture in American school textbooks,
  • Polish-Jewish relations.

Dr. Zygmunt Turski, as Chairman of this department, spent many hours perusing and clarifying these issues. In the process of a careful evaluation of several school textbooks that are presently used for teaching, many errors, omissions, and downright distortions regarding Poland's history and her contributions to the development of World civilization were found. Respective publishers were advised of our opinion. Our review was sent to all officials of State Boards of Education, hoping they would find it not only worthy but especially necessary to share with schools' teaching staffs. We firmly believe that for the sake of historical accuracy and academic correctness, our opinion should be heard by those who are actually teaching history. To our surprise, we discovered that our efforts were stopped at the offices of the State Boards of Education.
